Awashima (淡島, Awashima) is a Yōkai of Tōno Village who is male during the day and female during the night. He is usually responsible for preparing firewood, and hates being looked down on or underestimated because of his female form, as he considers himself to be male at heart. He is among the Tōno group who follow Rikuo to Kyōto.
Nurarihyon no Mago[]
Tono Arc[]
He first meets Rikuo in Toono Village. Later, Rikuo is startled by Awashima's female form upon seeing it for the first time.
Kyoto Arc[]
Along with Itaku and other members from Toono Village he accompanied Rikuo to Kyoto in a female form as it was dawn. Upon arrival to the Fushime Inari Shrine, he saw a kid crying. Later on, he found himself trapped by Nijunanamen Senju Mukade and he eventually struggled to fight. When he finally found out the source of the Yokai's power, he used the Dance of The Battle maiden, and defeated the yokai, saying that a female Awashima dances like a heavenly nymph.

- Dance of the Battle Maiden (戦乙女演武, Ikusa onna enbu) - Awashima's female form hatsu technique.
- Perfect Motherhood, Izanami (完全なる母性-伊弉冉, Kanzen naru bosei, Izanami) - Hyoui of the heavenly nymph.
- Perfect Fatherhood, Izanagi (完全なる父性-伊弉諾, Kanzen naru fusei, Izanagi) - Hyoui of the raging god.
Trivia[]
- Awashima is shameless. As a female, he jumped into the hot springs when the men were bathing and even pulled Rikuo into a hug, despite his obvious embarrassment.
- Awashima self-identifies as a male, which would explain this.
- He (Awashima was in his female form that time) said that his name "Awashima", was taken from the name of Izanami, a 'heavenly angel', and Izanagi's, a 'raging demon', second child. The child was neither female nor male.
- He ranked 18th in the character popularity poll with 180 votes.
