Yanagida (柳田) is a sly-eyed man with short light-colored hair who stops Natsumi from fleeing Kyōsai's house. He has an archaic way of speaking and appears to be involved in creating ghosts which fuel urban stories. While Sanmoto Gorōzaemon was still human, Yanagida was his loyal subordinate. After Sanmoto's death, Yanagida became his "ears" and was one of the seven executives of the Hyaku Monogatari Clan.
During the Tokyo Tag arc, he appeared alongside Enchou when they challenged the Nura Clan to Tokyo Tag and spent the rest of the arc persumably hiding.
After Sanmoto Gorozaemon was killed by Nura Rikuo and Tsurara, Yanagida wondered why Sanmoto didn't devour him. Yanagida believes that Sanmoto is evolving and is now able to revive by taking over another one's tale. Yanagida than leaves, deciding to create the Continuation of the Hundred Tales and finally revive his beloved master.
In a bonus in the final volume it is revealed that Yanagida was in the Aoi Spiral Castle as the final battle was taking place. After Encho comments on the defeat of Abe no Semi, Yanagida stabs him in the back with a sword and states that the nose he got from Sanmoto allowed him to follow the scent of scary stories and yokai. He then comments on how he will finish collecting the scary stories and bringing back Sanmoto as he walks of leaving Encho for dead.

- He is named for the historic figure Kunio Yanagita (柳田 國男, Yanagita Kunio), a Japanese scholar who wrote the famous collection of folk legends Tales of Tōno.
- Though he is called Sanmoto's Ear, he is persumably the only one who is not a Yokai created from Sanmoto's body splitting
